Use of Grids

It’s a daunting task to begin filling empty space with design. A way to make that process easier is to begin with a grid. There are a few common kinds of grids that you can use to begin your layout.

Column Grids are used to organize content in vertical columns. You can decide how many grids you have by how wide you want the content to sit.

Modular Grids are used to organize content in columns and rows. Much like the cells in a spreadsheet, you can begin to arrange elements on a verticle and horizontal grid.

Triangular Grids are used to measure your margins and gutters. You can scale elements along a triangular shape to arrange type and photos.

I would also like to mention Hang and Hair Lines. They aren’t grids but you can use these visible or invisible lines to align text boxes to other components like headlines, photos, or captions.
